Terre di Talamo

Terre di Talamo Terre di Talamo is located in the southern part of Tuscany’s Maremma coastal area, facing the Argentario gulf. The winery itself covers 52 hectares of hillslope, with 32 planted to vineyards. In addition to Sangiovese, other varieties are cultivated as well, in order to produce Morellino di Scansano and other wines: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Alicante, Vermentino, and Viognier. The soil is quite distinctive. Surface layers are largely well-drained rock, limestone and sandstone composites, but at a depth of about a metre and a half, an abundant clayey component keeps the soils cool and holds the water reserves necessary for the sound health and ripening of the grapes in the hot summers typical to this area. The wide range of soil types at Terre di Talamo has led to its being dubbed “minestrone soil”. The vine roots transmit these complex characteristics in the soil to the wine, so that the wines produced at Terre di Talamo are notable for their slaty mineral notes and for a perfect balance between acid and alcohol. |
